About Us
Who we are
Operating in the Canterbury region since 2007, the Postnatal Depression Family/Whanau NZ Trust are a group of men and women who are passionate about helping parents with perinatal depression and related illnesses.
We operate under the name of Perinatal Wellbeing Canterbury and are based in Christchurch.
We are a registered not-for-profit charity and are governed by a Board of Trustees who volunteer their time.
Our facililtator runs the support group, the playgroup and does home visits.
We have a wonderful childcare facilitator who, along with a team of volunteers, takes care of the children while parents are attending support group.
We rely solely on funding grants & donations and without our amazing sponsors and volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run our groups.
What we do
We work closely with GPs, midwives and other perinatal health services to make sure all mothers and fathers are able to access the help they need.
We provide support groups, playgroups and online communities as well as provide public education on PND.
With the DHB services full, and only supporting mothers until their child is 12 months old, we provide a much needed service in the community.
We know firsthand that PND is often diagnosed later than that so offer support to parents who have children under 5.
We are also one of the only services in NZ to provide support for fathers.
